Year 12 Media Tasks

} Look at three college magazines and briefly analyse.

} Test shots for college magazine.

 

} Research into institution (see examples here)

} Image manipulation of test shots. Explain what you were trying to achieve.

} Plan for College magazine – cover and contents.

} Audience profiling for music magazine.

} Music magazine genre research.

} College magazine cover and contents (due no later than 4th October.)

} Blog/work marking dates – Tuesday 20th September.

Digipak and Poster Analysis Task

Complete initial analysis on digipaks and posters - look for codes and conventions, how are they put together, what features do they have, how do they serve to promote the artist, what is the point of them?

You don't, at this stage, need to focus on a specific artist or genre, the purpose of this initial research is to show you understand the 'rules'. Once you have settled on genre and artist for your music video you will have to opportunity to look closely at representation etc.

Year 13 Deadlines

As agreed last lesson your upcoming deadlines are as follows;

18th December for research and planning improvements, this should include digipak and poster research and drafts.

12th February for final drafts of digipak and poster as well as any further revisions to research and planning.

24th March music video final deadline.

15th April final submission date for any revisions/improvements and evaluations.

Please note that all deadlines are non-negotiable.

Easter holiday task

OOver the Easter holidays find two pieces of evidence for one of the exam questions you are studying. One should support the idea and the other argue against it.

OE.G Media and democracy in action;

OOur Screen – a democratic approach to cinema where you can pick a film and, if enough people want to see the film it will be screened.

OOn the other hand they get to set the ticket price and, if you don’t get enough people interested, they won’t run the film.

Year 12 today - 25/11

Today you should be either working on exam case studies or, using the draft booklet for G321, starting to think about coursework.

The booklet can be found here; O:\Media Studies\A Level and is the pdf titled G321 Booklet (make sure you open that one and not the G324 booklet!).

I have included deadlines - planning and preparation is due in the week we get back.

Note - some of you still have a lot of tasks to catch up on!

Year 12 - Missing Work and AP2

I am still concerned that there is a lot of work missing from some of your blogs. This is making it difficult for me to give you a grade for work so far. This will impact on AP2 as, for some of you, I have no choice but to award a U.

To make it easy for you to see how I have come to grading decisions, I have separated work into tasks that count towards your coursework and are being used as indication of your potential and tasks that, although they will contribute towards your final grade, do not directly impact on my judgement of your potential.

You were given a very clear deadline. Although I expect to see the missing work on your blogs, work submitted after the deadline will not be given a grade.

Exam Preparation - Year 12

Here is the powerpoint from today's lesson;

G322: AS Media Studies Section A & B from hannahmedia

In the lesson on Wednesday, if you have no tasks to catch up on, you can start compiling information for your case study. You will need to pick at least one British film company (remember, if you pick Film4 you cover all three areas of production/distribution/exhibition, if you pick something like Working Title, you will need to look a companies that cover the other two areas not covered by Working Title.) and look at a number of films produced by that company.

You do need to begin this now, although your exam still seems a long way off. Once we begin the coursework proper I will expect you to split your time between exam prep and coursework tasks. Therefore when you come to lessons you should have already decided what you are going to do, rather than me giving you tasks to complete.

Year 12 lesson - 4/11/14

Continuation of Audiences and Institutions using the previously posted powerpoint up to slide 23. Tasks for the lesson included researching a Media Company to see what aspects of Media it either owns or is involved with and a table comparing audiences from the 1960s to present day, thinking about how they have changed.

Ongoing task is based on slide 23, with a specific focus on film. You will need to build a case study around a major film company and an independent one and knowing how the film industry has changed over time will help develop your understanding.

Could you also make sure your notes for this week's lessons are posted before Monday 10th November so I can give them a quick look. Also, don't forget you should be working on your preliminary tasks or looking ahead to see what other coursework tasks you could be doing.
