Research different blog sites and styles of blogs.
This will not take long – you used blogs last year and know what you need - blogger/blogspot is very reliable, wix is a bit flash but temperamental, Wordpress doesn’t work on the Macs but is fine on other PCs.
You can use the same platform or even the same blog as last year.
If using the same blog address, archive your year 12 work
Set up your blog and get the address to me – you have until the end of term to do this.
First entry: statement of intent;
who you are,
what you are doing,
what you did for last year’s coursework,
what you hope to achieve through the project?
Invite classmates to follow you – this will help you gather evidence of audience feedback
What do existing texts in your chosen area look like?
What elements make up a typical example?
Do some research and add it to your blog as a short post
Come up with an idea:
NOT just for a your main task, but for the whole package
Post your initial thoughts on your blog – you can always change them later.
This all needs to be done before the summer - DEADLINE 19th July.

Audience Theory and Beyond
Presentation from today's lesson.
Make sure you have read though and made notes on theories relevant to your productions. There are aspects from each one which could relate to both music videos and short films. If anyone is still looking at computer games all but the slide on auteurs is relevant.

PowerPoints from Today's Lesson
Below are the two PowerPoint presentations covered in today's lesson.
For those of you who attended the lesson you should make sure you have thought about the task on the last slide of the second presentation, as you will be expected to lead the discussions for your groups.
If you missed the lesson today then you will need to read through both of these so that you are aware of expectations, tasks and deadlines.

Independent Tasks for DLD 12th January
Year 12.
Continue working on research and planning tasks. All of you have work you can be doing!
Remember, I am expecting to see analysis of three existing magazine covers this Friday so, if that is something you are missing, these should be a priority. After that, look back at the deadlines for this half term - what can you get ahead on? Look at the suggested task list below - is there anything on there you haven't done? If you have done everything on the list look for other blogs - here, here or here, for example - and see what other tasks they have. Note - THIS and THIS blog have some excellent research examples.
Task list;
Research into institution - who would produce your magazine and why?
Image manipulation of test shots with an explanation of what you were aiming for.
Draft layouts - either hand drawn or on computer.
Audience profiling - who is your magazine for? How will you engage their interest?
Genre research - what genre of music is your magazine? How will images and fonts used reflect this?
Character creation - who is your cover star? Create a back story which will help justify photo choices and generate article copy.
EVALUATIONS!!!
The only task you won't be able to do is your cover, contents and double page spread. Nothing else requires special access to the Macs or for me to be in the building. Despite what some of you have told your form tutors!!!
Year 13
You should each have something to be getting on with - either finishing research and planning for your music video/digipak/poster or working on evaluations. I suspect none of you have completed a fully storyboard for your video. This should therefore be a priority! Again, if you have done all the suggested tasks look for example blogs to inspire you. Blogs such as Caitlin's, this one, this one or this one are all worth a look.

Music Video - Exemplar blog
http://latymermusiccharlotteameliahollylaura.blogspot.co.uk/
This is the link for the blog I showed you today. Again, just a reminder that I'm not expecting to see 88 posts from any of you! This is more to give you some ideas about the range of tasks that can be undertaken.
This is another good example to look at, presenting a different range of activities to be undertaken.
http://musicvideoalexanderwhitcombe.blogspot.co.uk/
For the next week I am expecting you to come to lessons and focus on generating tasks. Research and planning will be due in before October half term.

Digipak and Poster Analysis Task
Complete initial analysis on digipaks and posters - look for codes and conventions, how are they put together, what features do they have, how do they serve to promote the artist, what is the point of them?
Links for blog posts which may help;
http://tnhamedia.blogspot.co.uk/2014/07/digipak-research-photographs-feel-free.html
http://tnhamedia.blogspot.co.uk/2015/02/g324-digipak-design-task.html
You don't, at this stage, need to focus on a specific artist or genre, the purpose of this initial research is to show you understand the 'rules'. Once you have settled on genre and artist for your music video you will have to opportunity to look closely at representation etc.
Further items to do;
Set up year 13 blog and email c.cowles@tnha.org.uk the link.
Follow TNHAMedia blog.
Research artist and music.
Complete work set on previous two blogs and submit by Monday 18th July.

Animatic Storyboarding
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=I91dTiCbmas
The above link shows you how to make an animatic storyboard using Adobe Premier Pro. If you can, it is a great way of showing your ideas in real-time and will help when considering timings and the relationships between lyrics and visuals.

Example Research and Planning for G321
My film is going to be a Supernatural Fantasy film. Its aim is to introduce the audience to the main characters - kind of an origin story if you like. This is because in the genre of Supernatural Fantasy sequels and trilogies are big business. Therefore I'd set my film up in the same way.
Although most films in the genre tend to be aimed as a teen audience - consider The Hunger Games, Divergent series and Maze Runner - mine would be elevated to a slightly older demographic. This is because I think a lot of adults enjoy Supernatural Fantasy but that only television shows seemed to be aimed at them, for example Grimm, Fringe, Warehouse 13 or Supernatural. I'd like my film to bridge the gap between the two mediums by appealing to hte same demographic as those shows. However I would also consider keeing the rating to a 15 as I think young adults would still enjoy my film.
The plot;
Amber is a witch and demon hunter. She spends her time on the road with brothers Duncan and Seth, hunting demons and monsters from folklore and protecting the innocents - people who are fortunate enough to be oblivious to things that go bump in the night.
Amber's cases lead her to Hemingford where an evil cult is seemingly enacting their own form of divine retribution. It is up to Amber and the boys to infiltrate the cult and fight whatever evil is at the root of it. It is a case that will cost Amber more than ever before and will raise questions about her own history. Can she trust what she has been told her entire life? Why was her mother really murdered all those years ago?
Pitch;
Monsters do exist. Ever get the feeling that you are being watched from the shadows? That's because you are............... Ghosties, Ghoulies and eight legged beasties stalk the Midnight realm with only the Hunters to keep them at bay. Working in secret the Hunters protect you from creatures once thought to only exist in the world of make-believe. My name is Amber Thessaily and I am a Hunter. You are holding my diary, the record of a smoking hot Hunter on the frontlines of the battle against the things that go bump in the night.

Example Research and Planning for G321
My main character Amber will wear outfits similar to Faith in Buffy - tank top, jeans, boots. Basically low maintenance, easy to run and fight in clothes;

I'm also really influenced by the slightly steampunk look of Claudia Donovan in Warehouse 13 and think I'd like to incorporate some of that into Amber's costume. Expecially as Faith's look is slightly outdated. Therefore;

Basically, leather, boots, badges, studs and band t-shirts (obviously no Farnsworth or Tesla!)
For the brothers, as their characters are very much based on Dean and Sam from Supernatural I'd go with a similar look to them. Looking around, another influence would be Dale Barbara from Under the Dome. Simply, jeans, t-shirt or checked shirt, khaki or leather jacket.
Obviously I'm not going to go out and buy clothes for my actors so I'm going to have to work with what they, or I have, but this gives me a starting point which I can adapt. For the most part, as none of this is particularily specialist I think I'll be able to recreate the three costumes fairly faithfully.
