Emmy Awards

Hi,

The Emmy Awards are on tonight, featuring the best of British and American TV drama. It's worth keeping an eye on to see what's winning the awards, but also to see what types of representation are popular in current TV drama.

There is also the added institutional element of shows like House of Cards, which is produced by Netflix and is changing the way that TV drama is now made and exhibited. More on that late in the year.

See you tomorrow.

Preliminary Task

Evening,

I have been super impressed with your practical work thus far and am enjoying seeing you guys getting creative behind the camera.

As a recap, we have just looked at continuity editing and covered the following techniques...

  • 180 degree rule
  • shot/reverse shot
  • match on action
  • eyeline match

You have now started to engage with the preliminary task, which I have included below as a reference.

Continuity task involving filming and editing a character opening a door, crossing a room and sitting down in a chair opposite another character, with whom she/he then exchanges a couple of lines of dialogue.

This task should demonstrate match on action, shot/reverse shot and the 180-degree rule.

Looking forward to tomorrow. Keep up the excellent work!

New Sound Season on the BBC

Hi,

Starting on Thursday 12th September, the BBC is running a Sound of Cinema season across their network, on both TV and radio. The first documentary kicks off on BBC4. I have posted a link here so you can see what's on when.

BBC Sound of Cinema Season

In week 5, at the end of September, we'll start looking at sound in film and TV so this would be excellent research. I'm not expecting you to watch/listen to the lot, but there should be plenty for you to get stuck in to. I can recommend if you get stuck.
